Podium Finish for Kahlefeldt at Ironman Taiwan!
20 March 2017
Radka Kahlefeldt landed on the Ironman 70.3 podium for the second straight week, this time crossing the finish line just off the pace in second at Ironman Taiwan in Taitung. Kahlefeldt did work in the water and on the bike to keep near the lead of the pack but fell victim to Barbara Riveros’ (Chile) blistering run split.
Out of the 1.9 km swim course in Flowing Lake, Kahlefeldt and Mariya Shorets (Russia) were in a dead heat, marking a time of 25:18 going into the first transition. Exiting T1 with her Avow Advanced Pro, Kahlefeldt embarked on the 90 km bike course comprised of two loops. Dropping Shorets by nearly a minute within the first 30 km, Kahlefeldt was caught by Riveros and the duo stuck together throughout the rest of the bike leg. Exiting T2, the two athletes had opened a gap of 6.5 minutes on Shorets.
Although Kahlefeldt put down her fastest swim and bike leg, her legs could not keep up with the power that Riveros put down during the run. Losing 3:44 to Riveros over the course of the 21.1 km loop, Kahlefeldt finished second, 2:36 over third place Shorets.
Kahlefeldt will take next weekend off and return to the Ironman 70.3 circuit in Luizhon, China on April 2.
